Darth Vader is arguably one of the most memorable characters created by George Lucas for his epic space opera franchiseStar Wars. While the character was introduced as a villain, the second installment,The Empire Strikes Backrevealed an important twist about Vader that remains one of the biggest reveals in Lucas’ grand plan for the original trilogy.

According to reports, actor David Prowse who physically portrayed Vader in the movies ended up allegedly leaking the plot details during a fan interaction. Prowse’s reveal is arguably the greatest instance of an actor leaking spoilers, trumping the likes of Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo. Here is what you need to know about Prowse reportedly spoiling a major Darth Vader twist.
Darth Vader actor David Prowse allegedly spoiled majorStar Warstwist
ActorDavid Prowsewas responsible for portraying the menacing Sith Lord Darth Vader who first appeared in 1977’sStar Wars. Although the character wasvoiced by James Earl Jones, Prowse physically played the role in the original trilogy.
In the second installment,The Empire Strikes Back, it is revealed that Vader is actually the father of the protagonist Luke Skywalker, ending the film on a major cliffhanger. However, Prowse allegedly spoilt this twist during an interaction with fans.

According to a report fromLooper, Prowse appeared at the University of California, Berkeley in 1978, where he spoke about the then-upcoming sequel to the 1977 original film and hinted that Vader could be Luke’s father. However, the report also argued that Prowse was likely guessing since Lucas was yet to write the script at that point.

Moreover, Lucas and director Irvin Kershner were extremely careful about the twist and kept it a secret (viaStarWars.com) even from Mark Hamill shortly before they filmed the intense moment. Hence, it is unlikely that Prowse leaked the plot twist on purpose a full two years before the film was released.
David Prowse had a falling out withStar Warscreator George Lucas
While Prowse played Vader in the original trilogy, he never returned to the galaxy far, far away for future appearances despite the franchise running for well over five decades. According to a report fromThe Sun, Prowse was blacklisted by Lucasfilm.
The report states that Prowse was banned from attending any officialStar Warsfan conventions. The actor’s ban allegedly came after he appeared in an anti-George Lucasdocumentary. As a result, it is likely that the feud first started when Prowse reportedly leaked the Darth Vader twist years ago.

Those behind the film cut me out and have continued to ignore me for years.
Prowse made the above statement to the publication, confessing that he and Lucas had a falling out over the years but did not specify a reason.

Lucas also chose to replace Prowse with actor Sebastian Shaw when Vader is finally unmasked inReturn of the Jedi, despite the former playing the character in the movie. Prowse passed away at the age of 85 in November 2020 but remains beloved by theStar Warsfanbase.
