Square Enix developers Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed this at the G-Star 2024 event in Busan, South Korea. The developers gave a talk titled “Final Fantasy VII: The Challenges of Creating a Timeless Game and Its Remake Project,” during which they discussed the development of the new trilogy, the changes they made to make the game feel more modern, and even the game’s future.

At the event, Kitase mentioned (via4Gamers) how the plot for the third chapter in the remake has been finalized, the concept has been decided on, and the development team is now working on it, confirming the game is in full production.While Square Enix discussed concepts of the other two Final Fantasy 7 games during the talk, the concept for the still-untitled third entry wasn’t discussed, as the development team felt it wasn’t the right time to announce it just yet.

Based on the developers' discussions, we’re in for a long wait before we see the third chapter materialize. For reference, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released in 2020, with FF7 Rebirth hitting retail almost a full four years later on February 29. 2024. If this development trend continues, then we can expect Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 in 20208, which is insane when you think about it. Of course, there’s a chance development time won’t take as long, though I still wouldn’t expect it anytime before 2026 at the earliest.
