It’s not uncommon for people to format all their findings into long essays to back up their theory. That’s exactly what a Redditor has done, with their subject being one of the more mysterious locations inElden Ring: Farum Azula. However, this location may not have always been suspended in the air as we witnessed it.
Farum Azula Could have been a Part of the Rest of the World
This in-depth analysis and theory come from u/shabririgrape. The region of Farum Azula has always been one that’s shrouded in mystery. A vast crumbling citadel floating high in the sky with a maelstrom at its center. This late-game area holds a lot of lore indicators, but not much that points to what the land was and how it ended up in its current state.

The poster claims Farum Azula was once a part of Caelid, and first, they point to the various physical bits of evidence for this theory.Radahn’s arena has several broken structures that look like they may form a bridge. Nearby locations in Caelid back up this theory, such as the Farum Greatbridge and the Beastial Sanctum.

The interior of the Beastial Sanctum resembles the architecture in Farum Azula, with bodies of beastmen attached to the pillars. It is also the resting place of Gurranq, who we later fight in Farum Azula.
With pictures of the map of Caelid, the poster shows how the curved cliffs around Radahn’s arena resemble the curvature of Farum Azula. They point to the large number of dragons in Caelid. While they are not the same as the ones on Farum Azula (four limbs vs. six limbs), they are said to be descendants of the great immortal dragons who could have been left behind when Farum Azula was moved.

The post links Farum Azula to the real-world lighthouse of Pharos in Alexandria, Greece. The winding staircase leading to the lighthouse, along with the tongue of fire emanating from the top, arereminiscent of Farum Azula’sstructure and the presence of dragons.

Alexandria’s Library also bears many similarities to the halls and sanctums inhabited by the beastmen in the region. Another theory proposed for Farum Azula leaving the mainland is that it was struck by a meteor, which caused it to drift away.
Even after two years, fans are still discovering new things inElden Ring, and Miyazaki has even confirmed there is still one small aspect yet to be found.Shadow of the Erdtreeis just a few months away, and we are sure it will add a lot more lore and depth to the game.
