So, you finallybeat your first NightlordinElden Ring Nightreign— now en route to dethroning the rest of them. If you’re like me, you’ll likely go in order from there and possibly run into Adel, Baron of Night, in the Gaping Jaw Expedition. And boy, he does not mess around one bit.
Adel is one of the strongest and most annoying Nightlords in the game to me;it’s got extremely aggressive aggro and hard-hitting attacks (some of which even one-hit KO you at median levels). If you’re not skilled enough with your dodge timing, good luck surviving this guy’s onslaught.

Elden Ring Nightreign Review
“Git gud” personified.
Luckily, I’ve prepared a guide today that’ll discuss how you can beat this abhorrent abomination, detailing all the specifics you need from the team composition, weaknesses, attack moveset, and the strategy to employ when fighting against it with your squad.
Recommended Team Composition
While I’m pretty sure you can get away by using anyone of your choice here, an optimised team composition can help out tremendously.I’ve outlined my personal team composition below, which I decided in consultation with my teammates before the expedition launch. However, just like one of my teammates, you can also run a Recluse here without any issue.
Guardian is also a fantastic alternative option since it can tank hits at close range thanks to its playstyle and revive fallen teammates with his ultimate.

Weaknesses And Preparation
If you want to take down this insanely ferocious beast without breaking too much of a sweat, then you’d best sink in thecommitment for a perfect run on the first and second dayof the expedition. You’ll need all the prep work and levels you can grind for this showdown.
Recommended Level: 12–13+.The higher, the better, because it’ll increase your survival odds against its attacks.

Adel’s primary weakness is Poison,a status ailment that you can inflict from sources like grease items toeven weapons such as the Serpent’s bow, which is excellent on Ironeye.Still, if you’re running an armament that can build up and apply Frostbite, that’d be a solid option as well to slightly subdue this monster’s aggressiveness.
Lastly, in terms of defensive options to consider, it isn’t a bad idea to carry some boiled crab or prawns to add temporary damage negations. But you can permanently cover that for the whole run by picking up the damage negation boons from Field Boss rewards if your RNG is as good as mine.

How To Defeat Adel, Baron Of Night
Before I establish a general strategy against it, you’ll first need to understand that this fight isn’t like thoseparticular boss fights in other Soulsbornetitles that can be brute-forced or cheesed. If you want your team to succeed, you’ll need to lock in and learn its attack pattern.
That’s precisely what I’ve laid out in the groundwork below: the major attacks by Adel, Baron of Night.Remember that the boss can tend to switch up or add variations to these moves, such as being able to do his biting attack three times in a row.

Description
Double/Triple Bite
A basic attack where Adel will lunge and try to bite at you with its monstrous mouth. It can be easily evaded, but if caught in every bite, it’ll strip you of your health in a heartbeat.
Dragging Maw
One of its signature attacks and one of the deadliest ones. Adel will drag its mouth straight at you on the ground, and if caught, it’ll grab you and bite you whilst filling up the blood loss meter. This attack changes up slightly in the second phase, but both variations can be promptly evaded.
Ground Headbash
Adel will smash its head on the ground at anyone at close range. This attack can be repeated by him twice in a row, but regardless, they’re easily telegraphed and can be dodged as soon as he slams his head to the floor.
Toxin Pools
This attack will only come into play if you manage to inflict the prison status ailment on Adel. It will spew out this toxic slime at you and, if caught in it, it’ll rapidly build up poison for your character.
Roaring Tantrum
If you’ve played Monster Hunter, you might get some PTSD here. Adel will shriek two times, stunning any players in the vicinity and then momentarily target a player in your squad. This is one of the most critical attacks in its arsenal because Adel will proceed to charge at you with two running strikes, followed by an instantaneous version of the Dragging Maw bite to grab you.
Lightning Phase Transition
Whilst transitioning into his second phase, Adel will charge up and unleash a massive AOE Lightning pulse. Run as far away as possible and dodge the incoming lightning strikes once he’s finished up his transformation.
Diving Jaws
Adel will likely follow up on this attack after his phase transition. This is one of the trickiest moves to dodge since the initial dive is easy to telegraph, but those lightning strike tremors on the ground right after the dive may require some practice to timely evade.
Triple Headbash
Those lightning ground strikes I mentioned? Yeah, those come into play again, and with this attack, Adel will bash his head three times in a row, causing electric AOE strikes to hit the ground. The timing to dodge is approximately a split second when they’re about to hit the ground, at least in my experience.
First Phase
Before I get into the nitty-gritty, this can go two different ways depending on the Nightfarer you choose; a melee-focused character will likely be the main damage dealer and may have to dodge the hard-hitting close-range attacks, especially those purple lightning strikes.
As a ranged character, while you can DPS from a safe distance, you’re not technically in complete safety;in fact, you might get targeted the most during Adel’s frenzied state or in general by his hyperactive AI. attempt to do some practice attempts on your first couple of runs in the Gaping Jaw expedition.
You’d be surprised by how the first phase is relatively manageable, since most of Adel’s fearsome attacks won’t be amped up by his lightning transformation yet. So, try to get a feel of his biting attacks and especially the animation for the Dragging Maw grab move, one of the most annoying attacks in its arsenal.
Ideally, the strategy should be to have your team spaced out; what helped me and my team was my buddy constantly staying on Adel as Wylder, while two ranged characters from opposite ends dealt damage at their own pace.If you’re an Ironeye, make sure to always use your Marking Shot skill to gain i-frames during some of the dangerous moves.
Second Phase
I can’t stress to you enough how this is one of the most intense second-phase sequences in this game, and it’s all thanks to the courtesy of Adel’s relentless attacks not giving you a second to breathe, so don’t fret too much if your squad gets steamrolled here.
It’s one of the reasons why I suggested practicing and mastering the attacks in the first phase. If you manage to inflict poison on it constantly in the early going and get through without wasting any Crimson Flasks for healing, the better your odds of surviving in the second phase.
The strategy remains the same, but if you’re a character like Ironeye or Duchess, attempt to get the aggro on this guy.His Roaring Tantrum move will be the easiest to dodge for you due to the I-frames in the character’s respective kits, making it easier for your teammates to get through this bout.
Those lightning strikes can be brutal to evade, but that’s all the more reason why I advise using a close-range character with two ranged ones in the fray. It’s incredibly hectic, but as long as you play optimally here, use the poison status ailment, and come powered up with defensive boons, it’s one of the most rewarding attrition battles.
The unique reward for defeating Adel, Baron of Night, in the Gaping Jaw expedition will be a Trace of Night, as well as the Night of the Baron relic.Additionally, if this is your second Nightlord victory, you’ll also get tounlock the Dresser in the Roundtable Hold and customize your Nightfarers with new outfits.
