Elden Ring Nightreignhas launched to the worst reception on Steam for a FromSoftware game since theDark Souls 3DLC, with many fans criticizing the game’s lack of a two-player mode and communication options between players.
The FromSoftware games are primarily solo experiences, though players have the ability to call on others in games likeBloodborne, Elden Ring, and theDark Soulstrilogy, if they need help with certain bosses. Elden Ring Nightreign is the outlier, beingfocused on a three-playerexperience, though solo play is also possible.

The strange choice to lock the game into either three or one player has drawn considerable ire from the community. Elden Ring Nightreign has launched to a “Mixed” reception onSteam, matching the critical response, with many of its issues being highlighted on the game’s page. This matches the Dark Souls 3 DLC’s response on Steam, as it was blasted for being frustratingly difficult.

Why Are People Criticizing Elden Ring Nightreign?
By far the most common complaint is the lack of multiplayer options. The game works at its best with three players of a similar skill level, but that’s not always feasible for people who just want to sit down and play a game. It’s especially hard for peoplewho want to play solo, as they’re expected to face the same number of foes as three people.
Being thrust into a match with random people online is an easy recipe for disaster, especially with the lack of voice chat in the game, so players can’t effectively communicate with each other.

The other complaints include technical andperformance issues on PC(which shouldn’t come as a shock to long-time FromSoftware fans), and the repeated content, with so much of the game being reused assets from Elden Ring and the Dark Souls trilogy.
Elden Ring Nightreign has alreadyreceived a day one patch, but it seems the game needs more work. The consensus from fans is that it badly needs a duos mode, as well as better balancing for the long boss fights. Hopefully, it won’t be long until FromSoftware addresses these issues, and maybe some of the negative Steam reviewers will change their minds.
