How To Two-Hand A Weapon

First things first, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the process. Switching between two-handed and one-handed on the fly can be the difference between life and death, so you’ll want to feel completely comfortable with the mechanics before you hop into the next battle.

In order to two-hand your weapon on PlayStation, simply hold triangle and press R1. On Xbox, you’ll hold the Y button and press RB. To switch back to one handed, simply follow the same steps.

Using this same method, you may even two-hand a shield if you so choose. To do so, just hold triangle or Y, and press L1 or LB to two-hand your shield. Although this is possible, there are very few scenarios where you’ll want to take advantage of this option. But if you ever find you’ve accidentally two-handed your shield mid-battle, now you’ll know how to undo it and live to fight another day.

Elden Ring features tons of massive weapons, but which ones are the best?

Two-Handed Weapon Scaling Explained

In addition to the change-up in the weapon’s moveset, two-handing a weapon can also increase the damage it deals and allow you to wield weapons that require more strength than you currently have. Two-handing a weapon essentiallygives you 1.5x your current strength stat, so if yourweapon scales off of strength, you can expect up to a 50% boost to its overall damage when two-handing it.

Because it effectively gives you 1.5x the strength you currently have, you can also wield weapons that require more strength than your current level, up to a certain point. For example, if you have 12 strength, but the weapon requirement is 18 strength, then you can still wield it with two hands. Any weapons requiring more than 18 strength in this example, you would not be able to wield even with two hands.
