With the recent debut of the Shadow of the ErdtreeDLC, the spotlight is back on FromSoftware’sElden Ring. Gamers are reliving the nightmares of trying to beat the game’s tough bosses all over again, which has led to a massive resurgence in popularity.

AlthoughA Song of Ice and Firecreator George R.R. Martin wasn’t involved in the actual writing of the FromSoftware title, he helped provide the worldbuilding for it. We see the return of his ideas inShadow of the Erdtree. However, it seems like Martin has created the most disgusting storyline ever known to gamers.
George R.R Martin’s Disturbing Writing Strikes Back inElden RingShadow of the Erdtree
The overall narrative and lore inElden Ringarguably built one of FromSoftware’s best worlds, and dozens of characters all act and conflict with each other to bring us The Lands Between. However, in an effort to make a complex narrative, FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin brought in the aspect of incest in the game.
In the base game, we’re introduced tothe relationship between Queen Marika and Ragadon, who are later revealed to be basically two halves of the same entity. This makes their relationship an act of self-incest. What’s worse is that it produces demigod offspring, including Miquella and Malenia, who later prove to be pivotal in the plotline.

Elden Ring is Still Nowhere Near Dark Souls, But None of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s RPG Classics Are Close to Beating the Highest Selling JRPG of All Time
Many in the community believed that the inclusion of such an aspect wasn’t really necessary in the game, but then again, it’s a hallmark of Martin’s narrative in the title. This continues even inShadow of the Erdtreeand makes things even more complex.
InShadow of the Erdtree, Mogh was bornan omen, twin to Morgott, and is one of Marika and Godfrey’s children alongside Malenia and none other than Miquella.

When Mogh discovers Miquella, an Empyrean and brother of Malenia, his objectives become insane. He views Miquella’s power to influence anyone as a means to an end. Mogh invades the Haligtree, where Miquella rests in his cocoon, and abducts him to start his very own dynasty.
While this added another layer of moral ambiguity to the game, the relationship between the two step-brothers is a matter of hot debate within the community. It’s a truly disgusting storyline, and many believe it wasn’t required in the expansion.

On hispersonal website, Martin opened up about the possibility of a TV or movie adaptation for the game. His statements aren’t a clear-cut denial, and it seems like Martin is beating around the bush and playing coy.
Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?

If we do end up seeing anElden Ringmovie or TV adaptation, it could evolve the IP to levels we’ve never seen before. FromSoftware hasn’t revealed what’s coming next for it, but recent rumors also suggest thatthe studio might soon join the PlayStation family.
Sony knows about the importance of FromSoftware’s various IPs and wouldn’t miss capitalizing on them with adaptations. Only time will tell if we’ll see the Soulslike game on the big screen.
