The concept of Devil Fruits and the way they work has always been a mystery forOne Piecefans. They are deemed as one of the greatest powers inOne Piece, but still, half of theOne Pieceworld doesn’t have a lot of knowledge about that. Not only that, even their origins and their awakening have been a complete mystery that Eiichiro Oda needs to resolve as soon as possible.

One Devil Fruit user whose powers have been often questioned by fans of the series is Kaido, the former Emperor of the Sea and the Governor-General of the Beast Pirates. His Devil Fruit awakening has been a point of controversy, and many believe that it is a plot hole that Oda didn’t put much focus on. While some believe his Devil Fruit powers are awakened, others don’t.
Thus, Oda needs to desperately fix the pothole regarding Kaido’s Devil Fruit abilities and their awakening. This is because it is effectively disrupting the power scaling of theOne Piecenarrative and could become an even bigger problem in the future.

The controversy behind Kaido’s Devil Fruit awakening
Ever since Kaido was introduced inOne Piece, his unparalleled strength and his threatening demeanor were some of the most significant aspects of his character. In fact, he was literally called the Strongest Creature in theOne Pieceworld, ruling the seas as one of the Emperors. However, what made him even more frightening was his Devil Fruit powers.

Kaido had the powers of Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, a mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that allowed him to transform himself into Azure Dragon and a human-dragon hybrid. But what fans couldn’t understand was why Kaido was never able to awaken his Devil Fruit powers. Considering his importance and his abilities inOne Piece,he should have been one of the first to awaken his Devil Fruit powers.
While some argued that his hybrid form had an awakened transformation, it did not fit the description of the ideal Devil Fruit awakening. Even after his defeat at the hands of Luffy, it was never revealed whether he actuallyawakened his Devil Fruit or not, making it one of the biggest controversies inOne Piece.

Eiichiro Oda needs to fix Kaido’s Devil Fruit pothole
Although Kaido was defeated some time ago, his significance in theOne Piecenarrative as the former Emperor of the Sea doesn’t diminish. In fact, he has been an important figure in maintaining the power scaling of the series. Thus, a controversy regarding the awakening of his Devil Fruit powers causes a disruption in the power scaling ofOne Piece.
Not only that, with the new pirates being appointed as the new emperors of the sea, it is safe to say that the story will at some point compare them with the former title holders. This could cause a big problem, as Luffy was the one who took Kaido’s place, and Luffy awakened his Devil Fruit, but Kaido most likely didn’t,making it an unfairOne Piecebattle.
