Bigmode, a new indie publishing company founded by YouTube content creator Jason “Dunkey” Gastrow and his wife Leah back in September 2022, has announced that the company’s first publishing project isAnimal Well, a Metroidvania puzzle in development forPlayStation 5andPC.Animal Well doesn’t yet have an announced release date. The Metroidvania-style puzzle platformer is being developed by Shared Memory, a studio formed by Billy Basso who previously worked at NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) and Level Ex as a software engineer. Basso is the only one currently working on the game and has been doing so in his spare time for the last five years. Animal Well was first revealed last during the 2022 Summer Game Fest and now additional information has become available.

According to theofficial description, Animal Well is an atmospheric Metroidvania game that allows players to uncover its secrets in a non-linear fashion. The synopsis of the upcoming puzzle game gives players an insight into what to expect from its main aspects: “A pixelated wonder rendered in intricate audio and visual detail. Hatch from your flower and spelunk through the beautiful and sometimes haunting world of Animal Well. Encounter lively creatures small and large, helpful and ominous as you discover unconventional upgrades and unravel the well’s secrets. This is a truly unique experience that can make you laugh in fear, surprise, or delight.”
Animal Well features a dense, puzzle box world filled with secrets to be uncovered. Players must assess for themselves what is dangerous and friendly by using dynamic items that allow them to manipulate the environment in many ways. Additionally, Animal Well offers an uncommon unpredictability combined with mind-bending puzzles.
