Camping is a great idea inDragon’s Dogma 2. Not only does it replenish your ever-diminishing max HP as it gets whittled down from all the fights you’re bound to get into, but it also lets you skip past all those hard-to-see-in nighttime hours and gives you that oh-so-satisfying animation of aproperly grilled beast steak or scrag.
There are a prettywide variety of camping kitsthat you may find or purchase throughout the game world, but outside of item descriptions in the menu, there’s never much of an explanation given for just how exactly these things should work. In fact, they’re a bit better than camping kits in a lot of other RPGs, and unfortunately, that’s causing some confusing and unanticipated problems for some players.

And murderous.
Better Than The Average Camping Kit
Unlike camping kits in a lot of similar games, the ones given to you in Dragon’s Dogma 2are not consumable. There is a chance that your camp will be attacked while your Arisen and Pawns are sleeping, and if that happens, there is an additional chance that your camping gear will be destroyed, although higher-quality camping gear has a lot better chance of surviving a sleepy-time raid. It can be good to come prepared with a backup set in case your original is destroyed, because not being able to pass the time or recover your ailing health bar when you’reon a long journeybetween civilized locations can be a major pain.
The cheapest available camping kit, the Modest Camping Kit, weighs seven kilograms.

Therein lies the problem for some players, who were expecting the camping gear to be one use only. One player, posting on Reddit as MemoryReboot4K, shared their displeasure at learning they’d been hauling around a whopping seven camping kits, just in case. And they’re not alone; a lot of other players have chimed in, reveling that they’ve been doing the same thing.
Camping kits are pretty heavy. The cheapest available camping kit, the Modest Camping Kit, weighs seven kilograms, and while that might not seem like much, until you’ve really loaded up on golden beetles to increase your carry weight, that can really bog down your carrying capacity, turning your nimble warriors and rouges into sluggish chumps who can only run a few paces before needing a break. Even if you’re able to get your hands on an Elite Camping Kit, you’re still looking at an extra four kilograms youy’ve got to lug around, and if you’re packing a bunch of them, you’re in for a slow trek across the countryside.

You’re Gonna Carry That Weight
If you are struggling to keep up with carry weight, one trick is to let your Pawns do some of the carrying for you, although this too has drawbacks. If a Pawn that’s accompanying you gets killed or dismissed, anything they’re carrying (other than the equipment they came in with, in the case of any except your Main Pawn) will go directly to your storage, which you won’t be able to access until you’re back in a settlement. That, again, leaves you with the possibility of being unable to make camp and having to deal with the dangers of the night and fighting with diminished HP. (To be fair, both I and others responding to the thread had believed items carried by Pawns that were killed were lost for good, so knowing that they’ll be waiting in storage is better than that scenario, at least).
It’s a nice (and realistic) touch that Capcom made to let your camping gear be better than a single-use-only item, but even so, maybe Capcom should have bragged about that feature a bit more, if for no other reason than to put less strain on the Arisen’s back.
