Dragon Quest: Your Story, a 3D animated filmannounced back in February 2019, finally has an official release date. The movie will be coming to thestreaming service Netflixon February 13th, 2020 for the West after debuting in Japanese theaters on August 2nd of last year. The official summary is thus: “Luca follows in his father’s footsteps to rescue his mother from evil Ladja. Finding the heavenly hero who wields the Zenithian sword is his only hope.”
Your Story, which is an adaptation ofDragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride,received a trailerin April 2019 that showed off an artstyle wildly different from character and monster designer Akira Toriyama’s. It’s very reminiscent of the Western 3D movie style, from studios such as Disney Pixar and Dreamworks.
Square Enix recently re-released the first three installments of theDragon Questseries for Nintendo Switch. Japan received a physical collection while the West received a digital-only release. you’re able to check out my own impressions of the gameshere.
In a recent interview withNintendo Dream magazineDragon Quest XIProducer Hokuto Okamoto made some interesting comments pertaining to the inclusion of Hero and theDragon QuestIP in general inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
According to Okamoto “I was quite surprised when I first heard aboutSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. It’s nearly impossible forDragon Questcharacters to appear in other companies’ games. We discussed many ideas, including what we’re doing withDQXI S, such as making each color a hero of past games.” He then further elaborated that “Mr. Sakurai accepted both Nintendo’s direction as well as Square Enix branding, and then got on board. It was a very exciting experience.”

Yuji Horii, the key developer of the series, stated on Twitter that the twelfth entry in the franchise is still alittle bit further ahead, and how something else might end up releasing before it.
