Dragon Ball DAIMAhas introduced a twist that turns the entire Demon Realm lore of the franchise upside down. It was established in the demon lore that pointy ears were a defining trait of Demon Realm inhabitants. That was how you would distinguish them as natural-born demons.

Innocent Buu from Dragon Ball.

This was a hallmark of the lore and fans had come to accept it as a near-perfect classification. However,DAIMAintroduced an exception that challenges this standard: our old friend, Majin Buu.

It was revealed inDragon Ball DAIMAthat Majin Buu, despite not being a natural-born Demon Realm inhabitant, still qualifies as a demon. Even though he was artificially made and does not have the tell-tale signs of being a demon, he is qualified to be one of them.

Demons have pointy ears, just not all of them

Pointy ears are not needed for a being to be called a demon. Essentially speaking, Buu was akin to a synthetic lifeform and had holes for ears, he could be treated akin to an advanced version of Cell, but of demonic origin.

This deviation sets a precedent for artificial beings to be classified as demons. It’s a bold reinterpretation that pokes holes in the established belief system. This is especially shocking to see, given how consistently pointy ears have beentied to the Demon Realmidentity inDragon Ball‘s expansive lore.

So according to#DragonBallDaima; because Majin Buu was an artificial creation, he would not quality as being a natural born Demon Realm inhabitant, hence why he does not have pointy ears. However, he still qualifies as being a DEMON despite not being naturally born.pic.twitter.com/M0r4vnBtbc

The absence of pointy ears was a clear indication of a non-demon. But due to the enigma that is Buu, the franchise risks the integrity of the earlier episodes when Goku and the others embarked upon their journey into the Demon Realm.

Until now, demons like Dabura adhered strictly to the pointy-ear rule, cementing it as a true-blueway of identification. So, by introducing Buu as a demon without those physical traits,DAIMAchallenges fans to rethink what it means to be part of the Demon Realm.

The entire Demon Realm is living a massive lie

Not only is this a problem, it means that he entire Demon Realm is wrong and operating under a false assumption, no pointy ears equals not a demon. It seems far fetched for a truth to be a fact when it is not known by the majority. WhenDAIMArefers to Buu as a demon, does it refer to the essence of Buu being demonic (artificial based on demon physiology) or something more?

It also opens the door to broader interpretations and a lot of debate. It could be that due to Buu’s sheer destructive capability and mystical origins,DAIMAfelt it right to tie him with theDemon Realm’s chaosand power. So what would happen if there were other artificially created beings classified as demons in the future?

No matter the result,DAIMAis bound to fix any loopholes or lacunae with respect to the main plot since demons are at the center of the current story. Majin Buu being accepted as a demon could be a precursor to an entire army of artificial demons… or just a way to explain his origins. We can only wait and watch.
