Shortly after jumping into thecozymanagementsim, Discounty, you’ll start to notice a bit of a rat infestation all around town. While this is slightly gross, it’s still no major cause for concern. For the most part, these squeaky dudes just want to vibe and have a good time.
Still, you have the power to give these rats what they want, and in return, they’ll open up some fast travel points around Blomkest that you can use to traverse more efficiently and save some precious in-game time.

The rats start showing up around the map early on in the game, but you really can’t do anything for them until Chapter Two and beyond in the Vermin Ties quest. Each group of rats is a mini-puzzle in which you must essentially solve a riddle, obtain an item they desire, and offer it as a means to satiate their ever-growing desires.
You’ll also need to assist one more missing sheep to get this quest to clear from your to-do list, which we’ll discuss here as well.

If you may’t figure out what the heck these rodents want from you, allow me to be of assistance.
After finding each batch of rats, youmustspeak with the mentioned NPCs in each section below before giving the rats their desired items.

You’ll also earn a trophy/achievement for completing all four of these activities called The Streets Beneath.
Rat Group 1: At The Recycling Center
The first batch of rats you may deal with like hanging out in and around the dumpster at the recycling center. You can speak to Ted about what he thinks they want, but he’s not much help. Instead, think like a rat, and intuitively assume they might like some cheese.
After unlocking Tier 2 of your trade deal with Karl the Farmer, you’ll be able to purchase and sell sheep’s cheese in your shop. This happens through natural story progression, so if you don’t yet have access to cheese, just keep working on the main quest.

Once cheese is on the menu, place some in your pocket, thendrop one helping of cheese in the food dishjust below the dumpster. This satisfies group number one.
Rat Group 2: On The Highway
Up next is a band of hitchhiking rats that hangout next to the highway on the west side of town, just near the bus stop you first showed up at. You can speak with Aunt Tellar about them, and she’ll mention something about them feeding on radioactive waste. This is… odd.
Luckily, after normal story progression once again, you’ll learn that Barbara and her fish stick company are dumping tons of waste into the ocean every day. You’ll eventually get her to stop with the agreement that you’ll dispose of her waste instead.

From this point on, each time you purchase products from Barbara, they’ll come along with a barrel full of “Fishy Waste” that you need to toss in the dumpster at the recycling center. But not so fast!
Save one of these barrels for the highway rats, place it on their shelf by sewer grate, and rat group number two is done.
Rat Group 3: On The Farm
Group number three hangs out in front of Farmer Karl’s red barn in the Farm area. Once again, you’ll have to wait for natural main quest progression for this one.
Karl thinks his farm is being cursed by a creature of local folklore called the Nisse. To help him with this, you’ll eventually concoct a special oatmeal that keeps the Nisse satiated – at least, according to Karl. The “Nisse” eats the oatmeal and leaves, but we have a sneaky suspicion that it’s actually the rats that ate the meal.
After this, there’s a food dish by the barn where you can feed the rats again. You’ll need to offer the same items as the special oatmeal ingredients once again, but this time as three separate items.
Offer abag of oats, an apple, and a serving of fish sticks, and that’s one more item off your checklist.
Rat Group 4: On The Pier
Lastly, there’s a fourth group of rats on the pier near the ocean. This spot is located as far southeast as you can go in the Harbor section of the map. After finding them, you can talk to Barbara and see if she has any ideas.
She’ll mention that the rats might just want some tiny furniture or a place to call their own home. If you’re like me, this will kind of stump you. I lugged down each and every item I had in the shop, and nothing appeased these rodents.
Finally, I had the bright idea to check the Antique Shop at the top of the map, and lo and behold, I found the solution.
For sale in the shop was a bright pink dollhouse, which looked suspiciously rat-sized. After buying the dollhouse and giving it to the rats at the pier, this quest was finally complete. I got my trophy, and unlocked my final fast travel point.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that the pink dollhouse will be for sale at the Antique Shop all the time. You’ll want to check the store’s inventory daily, then purchase the dollhouse whenever you happen to find it for sale.
The Missing Sheep In The Forest
Toactuallyfinish this quest and earn the related trophy, you’ll still need to do one more thing. This will open the final fast travel point in the game, which isactuallythe trigger for the quest and trophy completion.
After unlocking the forest to the north, you’ll find an abandoned building complex in the southwest corner of this new area. Take note of the sewer grate/fast travel point here.
In Chapter Three, a sheep will appear over this sewer grate. Go check with Karl the Farmer, and he’ll explain what this sheep is doing here, and that local kids used to give it something to make it energetic.
Go back to your store, grab an energy drink, and give it to the sheep. This will clear it from the sewer grate, unlock the fast travel point, clear the quest, and give you your trophy at long last.
