The patch,update 8.0.5, which introduced various balance changes familiar toDestiny 2players, also included abuff to the Exotic class items obtainable from chests in theOverthrow activity, as noted in thepatch notes for the update, which states, “Adjusted chances for acquiring Exotic class items from chests to be more generous.”

However, it appears that something has gone amiss with the item drop rates, as players are reporting that thedrop rates for high-tiered chests have actually decreased.
Bungie Aware Of Issue & Hotfix Is Imminent
Onthe Destiny subreddit, players have highlighted theneed to complete multiple Overthrow runs to get an Exotic class item drop, which should not be the case according to the patch notes.
Fortunately, thedevelopers atBungiehave identified the issue and are working on a fix, as they wrote the following in the Reddit thread:
We’ve identified an issue impacting Exotic Class Item drop rates. At this time, Tier 4 Overthrow Chests are not contributing to increased drop chances, nor can Exotic Class Items be awarded through them.
We’re currently developing a fix, aiming for a near-term hot fix.
We are also looking into giving players a way to chase specific perks in a future update. More details as plans solidify.
Destiny 2 released The Final Shape DLC in June, which drew criticism from some players due to itsmassive 300GB install size. Acquiring these Exotics was intended to be akey activity for players after completing the campaign, but unfortunately, this has been hampered for now.
This, of course,follows theBungie layoffs, where 220 employees were let go on July 31,affecting about 17% of the studio’s workforce.
Despite the positive reception ofThe Final Shape,the layoffs occurred just two months after the DLC’s release.
