DeveloperBungieis largely keeping the annual competition the same, but there are some key changes to keep the Guardian Gamesfresh and exciting. To help carry your team to victory, it’s good to know how the games work.

How The 2023 Guardian Games Work

As in previous years, the Guardian Games are broken down intodaily competitions. The class that deposits the most medallions during the day will be crowned that day’s victor. The class that has earned the most daily wins will be heralded as the victor for the year. There are a variety of ways to earn medallions, and different activities will award different medallion tiers.

Medallion Tiers

In addition to the methods listed above, Guardians are also able to purchaseContender Cardsfor1000 Glimmer. These will also award Gold Medallions. The caveat is that Guardians can only carrytwo Contender Cards at a time. One card is geared towards strikes and Gambit, while the other one is focused on the Crucible. There will also bePlatinum Cardsavailable for 1500 Glimmer that have the same rules and structure as the Gold Cards.

Strike Scoring

Strike scoring is making a return this year after its introduction during the 2022 Guardian Games. With its return, there are updated milestones, challenges, and Strike Medals. As in previous years, Strike scoring works by having Guardians earn high scores while playing through the playlist. As the scores tick up, there will be powerful buffs applied to both weapons and abilities.

The playlists are broken into two strike playlists:Guardian Games OpsandCompetitive. While both playlists have scoring, the Ops playlist will have all available strikes whereas the Competitive playlist is relegated to a single weekly strike. This is similar to how theNightfall works. It comes complete with modifiers and a Hero difficulty option.

Class-Based Supremacy

In addition to the two strike playlists, there is also the ability to settle class differences in the Crucible.Supremacyhas returned with the option to matchmake by class. When in the match, it will operate likeCall of Duty’s Kill Confirmed mode. Any downed opponent will drop a class-branded crest that can be picked up. Picking up crests is the key to victory, as they award points.

The Event Card

Just like in other seasonal events (Solstice, Festival of the Lost, and the Dawning), Guardians are able to complete theEvent Card. This card is free to all players and contains challenges and rewards related to the event. For those that want a little more, the Event Card can beupgraded for 1000 Silverand this will instantly unlock new rewards like two Exotic emotes.
