Death Stranding’s creative director Hideo Kojima has finally unveiled the box art for his upcoming title during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. What was shown is the art for the standard version of the game and also the more expensive steelbook version. The PS4 cover shows an up-close and personal image of Sam Bridges, who is the games main protagonist, staring at something in the distance while the steelbook version depicts Sam’s character again, but a slightly rougher look like he’s just been through the wars.

Film director Nicolas Winding Refnc who has a special appearance inDeath Strandingas the character Heartman, also joined the panel to talk about his relationship with Kojima and his thoughts on the title. Mr. Kojima showcased a cutscene showing off Heartman who is equipped with an electronic metal box attached to his torso. Kojima explained that Heartman has a “unique” heart, which stops every 21 minutes and when he dies for three minutes, it allows him to spend some time on the other side in the hopes of trying to find his family but then Heartman keeps getting resurrected.

According to Hideo Kojima,Death StrandingÂis “not a stealth game,” and that it should not be considered a “shooting gamer either.” Mr. Kojima instead wants gamers to viewDeath Strandingas an entirely “brand new genre” consisting of an action game and a “strand game,” marked by the game’s unique social strand system.

Interestingly, Kojima also expressed interest in having Keanu Reeves in the game but instead opted for Mads Mikkelsen. Personally, I think it would have been awesome to have both of these giants working alongside each other but, for now, we will have to settle on witnessing the beauty of thebreathtakingKeanu inCyberpunk 2077instead.

Death Stranding will be coming exclusively to PS4 on June 24, 2025. If you have yet to pre-order the game, you can do that right nowÂover on Amazon.
