The first half an hour of content for Deep Silver and Dambuster Studio’s newest zombie game,Dead Island 2, has popped up online Sunday evening ahead of its scheduled release date this coming Saturday, April 21.
Out of respect for the publisher and developer, we will not be providing a link to the content nor posting images here, but the content is, for the time being, easily available for viewing on YouTube. Opening on a cinematic roughly three minutes long, the video sets the scene for Dead Island 2, showcasing undead attacks on a city bus and a commercial airliner, both making their way out of zombie-infested Los Angeles and both of which wind up in their own separate fiery explosions.

The video then goes into a character selection screen, displaying the images, statistics, and abilities of the game’ssix playable characters(although all the text of the video appears in Spanish) — the high Max Health Jacob, crit-dealing Bruno, resilient Carla, high-resistance Dani, robust Ryan, and agile Amy. The player selects Jacob, beginning the first player-controlled action segment, in which Jacob awakens in the upside-down wreckage of the crash, yanks a piece of scrap metal from a (now blood-gushing) stomach wound, staggers to a first aid station, crawls to safety, and gathers supplies outside before uniting with a group of other (non-playable) survivors in another broken section of the plane.
After most of the others set off, the action really begins, and Jacob begins taking on a horde of zombies with a makeshift metal blade, an enormous, silvery hammer, and his bare hands. There are also a few Michael Bay-worthy explosions spaced throughout, one caused by the player in a clever zombie kill. Eventually, Jacob is bitten while trying to do the right thing, then awakens outside a mansion and spends roughly the second half of the video bashing zombies both inside and outside the mansion.
Dead Island 2 is scheduled for release April 21 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
