AnotherDungeons & Dragonsgame is returning on modern platforms, as The Temple of Elemental Evil, a game directed byFalloutcreator Tim Cain, is coming to Steam in 2025.
The Temple of Elemental Evil is based on the 3.5e D&D rules set, unlikeBaldur’s Gate 3, which uses the current 5e set. It’s based on theclassic D&D campaignof the same name, where the town of Hommlet is threatened by several united elemental cults, working for Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungi and Rot.

This Game Is Disco Elysium With Demons, & It’s Fantastic
Demonic possession, time loops, insane choices. Tick, tick, and tick.
The Temple of Elemental Evil is available on GoG, but can’t be purchased onSteam. That’s about to change, as SNEG (the same studio behind otherrecent D&D remasters, like Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone) is bringing a remastered version of the game to Steam in September 2025.

The Temple Of Elemental Evil Is Opening Its Doors
The Temple of Elemental Evil was one of three titles produced by Troika Games, the other two being Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. The company made three beloved cult RPGs that were blasted at launch for their glitches and poor performance but earned huge followings in the years since.
In the case of The Temple of Elemental Evil, itsconnection to D&Dand one of the most popular campaigns meant that fans quickly got to work fixing the bugs and adding content, turning it into the game it should have been at launch.

It’s unclear what the SNEG version of The Temple of Elemental Evil will bring to the table, though if the company’s other remasters are anything to go by, they’ll likely have performance tweaks and support for modern displays as a minimum.
Seeing the revival of all of these classic D&D games feels like areaction to Baldur’s Gate 3, as it brought many people into the fandom who never had the chance to play these games in the past. It feels like a renaissance of the 3e era, giving games that were slammed at launch a second chance at success.
