Speculation is in the air with the upcomingFinal Fantasy VII25th anniversary live stream on Thursday, with people hoping to finally get details aboutFinal Fantasy VII Remake Part 2. Just ahead of this stream though, a recently reliable leaker has teased what could be a remaster forCrisis Core Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy VIIcelebrated the 25th anniversary of its original release in Japan back in January and will be celebrating its US release date in September, but they have decided to hold a short 25th anniversary celebration stream this week.
There is no indication exactly what we will see during the stream, though most speculated we’d at least see the upcoming mobile spin-offFinal Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. That was until today when a new tease potentially revealed something else that we might see.
What Is Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII?
Final Fantasy VIIhas been spun off into a number of different games over the years, with two of the most well-known beingDirge of CerberusandCrisis Core. WhileDirge of Cerberuswas on PlayStation 2,Crisis Core Final Fantasy VIIwas a PSP exclusive and was missed by many people as a result.
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VIIwas released back in 2007 in Japan (2008 in the US) and was a prequel to the events ofFinal Fantasy VIIthat starred Zack Fair. Aerith also played a large role in the game, which leads up to the events of the original.
Anybody that has playedFinal Fantasy VIIknows this one does not end well, so getting to see that journey to setup the events of VII itself was pretty special.
The game also took a big risk by being an action RPG instead of the turn-based style found inFinal Fantasy VII, which we have now seen become the standard for the franchise with games likeFinal Fantasy XVand evenFinal Fantasy VII Remake.
Up to this point,Crisis Core Final Fantasy VIIhas been exclusive to the PSP, which has made people beg for it to get a remaster. These requests have gotten even louder since the release ofFinal Fantasy VII Remaketoo, which gave us more of Zack than anyone expected.
A Remaster May Be In The Future
Fan requests are one thing, but few really expected us to get an announcement of aCrisis Core Final Fantasy VIIremaster. In fact, many figured it might just play into the story ofFinal Fantasy VII Remakein some fashion.
This all changed today when one of the most renowned leakers lately known as The Snitch posted a very interesting tweet. This leaker is the same person who leaked the entire PlayStation State of Play presentation beforehand and has been correct on a few other things very recently.
The tweet may seem like it means absolutely nothing at first, but it holds some very big clues in it. For one, the picture crops out Cloud and includes just Zack and Aerith. More importantly though are the four colored squares above the image, which seem to indicate the four platforms of PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Steam.
Your first thought might be that he is instead teasing thatFinal Fantasy VII Remake Part 2is going to be multiplatform, but there is almost no way that the sequel could be released on the Nintendo Switch. Even if they did a cloud release, that would come after the first game received the same treatment.
Instead, this almost certainly seems to point to the existence of the return ofCrisis Core Final Fantasy VII. Since it shows the cryptic clue of multiple platforms, it would seem this isn’t just the PSP version getting a release through PS Plus Premium, but rather a remaster of sorts.
Based on The Snitch’s timing of the tweet, you would assume this announcement would come during theFinal Fantasy VII25th anniversary celebration stream, as there is no better place for it to be done. That means we won’t have to wait long to find out if he was right with yet another leak, which we really hope he is.
