While Civilization 7 (stylized as Sid Meier’s Civilization VII) will be released this coming week on consoles and PC, those who want to play the strategy game in virtual reality (VR) will need to wait a bit longer.
Publisher 2K Games has announced that Civilization 7 VR will be released sometime in “Spring 2025.”

Civilization 7 VR Marks The Franchise’s First Foray In Virtual Reality
In apress release, Firaxis Games announced Civilization 7 VR will launch exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S in Spring 2025. It will be developed by PlaySlide Studios that aims to bring the franchise to mixed reality for the first time.
VR players can expect the same content from the PC and console versions of Civilization 7, though with a new perspective with virtual and mixed reality features. " Civilization VII - VR leverages the classic, top-down view of Civ, putting you at the Command Table, a board game-like construction where the world is laid out before you and has come to life. You’ll be able to peer down from high above the Command Table to strategize your moves or lean all the way in to appreciate the finer details of your scouts, cities, armies, and Wonders," the press release states.

Gamers playing Civilization 7 in virtual reality will be transported to an ornate museum, where they can look out into a vista personalized as their leader. In mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to its placement in a player’s physical space. Dioramas are in The Archives, a room in the player’s museum dedicated to their gameplay achievements.
Civilization 7 VR will also feature online multiplayer with up to three other Meta Quest 3 and 3S players.

Set to be released on June 12, 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game seems to be another solid entry in the franchise. Our sister site Game Rant’s review awards it a 9/10 and states, “Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 offers a fantastic experience for fans of the franchise and genre. Its turn-based gameplay loop is endlessly addicting, the civilizations and leaders are a joy to play around with, and its exploration of history is a sight to behold. It has a few flaws that need to be worked out, but just like almost every Sid Meier’s Civilization game before it, those will likely be addressed with future patches and DLC content.”
