Just revealed via theDisney&MarvelGames Showcase, the previously announced Skydance New Media Marvel project will feature Captain America and Black Panther duking it out in what is rumored to be the World War II era. This game was subtly announced nearly a year ago in October 2021, and it was described as a narrative-driven, blockbuster, action-adventure game from a AAA studio.

Little else was known about it besides the fact that was being helmed by Amy Hennig, the creative force behind the originalUnchartedtrilogy, but now we know the main characters, and we got a look at what is probably the setting in the trailer below.
Still, the project is marred in mystery. We still don’t know the specificities of the gameplay, we don’t even yet have a title, but there are things that can be grasped from the trailer besides just the characters: one of the game’s settings will likely be Paris, and the final shot suggests another could be Wakanda. The game will feature two additional characters besides the two heroes, it will be centered around a war of some kind, and the antagonists will likely be Hydra, given the logo on the military cap seen midway through the trailer.
Prior to the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, a leaker reported the game’s two main characters, stated that the game would center around World War II, and that the protagonists would be tasked with taking down Hydra. This was later corroborated byEurogamer. Given that the leaker got the characters correct, it’s likely the other tidbits are right too. If such is the case, the game may be taking inspiration from a 2010 comic book run called Black Panther/Captain America: Flags of Our Fathers, in which Steve Rogers traveled to Wakanda during such an era, only to be seen as a threat by the Black Panther.
Though if such is the case, the game will likely deviate heavily from that comic book, as the project was previously touted to have a “completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.” Ultimately, there is still a long way to go before we get any concrete information about the game, given how early in development it seems to be. The idea does have potential, and the general premise is intriguingly unique when compared to the currently available Marvel games. Interestingly enough, it waspreviously reportedthat EA was working on their Black Panther game, set in an open-world Wakanda.
