Activision has today revealed the sales figures forCall of Duty: Black Ops 4from its first three days on the market and as you might have expected, it once again did gangbusters.
In its opening weekend following release, Activision is reporting thatBlack Ops 4raked in more than half a billion dollars. This isn’t anything all that new for theCall of Dutyfranchise, but it still remains staggering just how much longevity this series has had. To provide additional context, Activision also revealed that player numbers increased withBlack Ops 4, surpassing that ofCall of Duty: WWIIand the previous installment in this sub-series,Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
Rob Kostich, EVP and GM ofCall of Dutyalso gave the following statement to talk about the success theBlack Ops 4has found so far in avenues other than just sales.
“Black Ops 4is off to a blockbuster start. Our player counts and hours played are up year over year, our viewership on Twitch has set new standards and is showing just how fun Blackout is to play and to watch, and the weekend results yet again putCall of Dutyat that highest tier of entertainment. Our digital sales results have been record-breaking across all platforms, and the overall performance strong. We’re really excited aboutBlack Ops 4’smomentum. There’s much more to come, we’re just getting started.”
It seems likely thatCall of Dutycould once again be the sales king in 2018, but I’m still interested in seeing how it continues to perform late into the year onceRed Dead Redemption 2andBattlefield Vhit the market. I’m most interested inseeing how it contends with the former, personally.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you haven’t read our review of the game just yet, you’re able to check it out here.
