Cheating in multiplayer games is unfortunately commonplace, andCall of Dutyis no exception in this regard. The newly releasedBlack Ops 6has a massive cheater problem – which is especially predominant on the PC platform.

Activision Blizzard has thankfully taken note of these developments and is preparing to release an update for the console versions of the game, aiming to deal with the issue – but with a massive setback. Given how difficult dealing with hacks can be, this does, however, seem like a suitable compromise.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 to release console-only crossplay modes

Detailed within the rather extensiveCall of Duty Warzone Season 02patch notes, a series of changes are slated for the launch of the Season 2 update – the most important of which would be the addition of additional matchmaking options to consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S).

In short, cross-play will receive the following options:

This move should help console players filter out PC gamers from matchmaking, and thus avoid the usual flood of cheaters. While a rather interesting move, EA has also mentioned that using this particular feature may affect matchmaking times quite negatively.

Still, having access to more options is always appreciated. It should be noted that this particular feature is not available on PCs, which is a rather curious omission.

It should also be noted that this particular feature can only be activated in ranked matchmaking modes – meaning that other modes still do not have the option to filter out players from another platform just yet.

A better long-term solution is needed

It’s important to note here that cheating is not restricted to PCs, there does exist a small, but active section of cheaters on consoles, using hardware and/or software hacks to get an unfair advantage on their opponents, ruining the game for everyone in the process.

As such, extending the ability to impose a blanket ban on PC players is not exactly a great idea – given that it could very likely alienate PC gamers from the rest of the player base.

Additionally, this does not solve the cheating problem at all and isakin to applying a band-aid fix. Activision should prioritize enhancing its anti-cheat and apply patches as and when necessary to combat exploits.

Ricochet will see new updates very soon

As per the recent patch notes, Activision has seemingly reaffirmed the situation with cheaters in multiplayer and has reassured its player base that it would take necessary steps to strengthen its anti-cheat (Ricochet) with newer detection models and such.

In particular, there are several updates planned to the kernel-level anti-cheat as well as server-wide changes that are expected to be finished deploying sometime into Season 3.

The move is most certainly appreciated, and it is hoped that these kernel-level changes might make the gameaccessible on a wider range of hardware and operating systems, such as the Steam Deck.
