Chapter 374 ofBlack Clovermanga has just been released, and fans are already hyped about the incredible action scenes in it. Yuki Tabata has been busy building the plot this long, but the battle has finally begun, and characters are in the mood for some skull-crushing action.
On the one hand, the latest chapters have given the heroes major advantages, but on the other, new transformations have been recklessly used to overpower Lucius and Morgen. While these transformations are definitely adrenaline-pumping, it feels more like an Akira Toriyama-inspired shortcut.
Yami Receives an Incredible Power-up inBlack CloverChapter 374
In chapter 374 ofBlack Clover,Yamiis almost on the verge of death as he is heavily bleeding out from the cross-shaped gash on his chest. But Ichika has a trick up her sleeve and pulls out a Demon Soul Pill or Kikongan. To give you some context, the Kikongan induces the bloodthirsty states from the Yami clan and draws out their latent magic power. When she was a child, Ichika was drugged by her father with the pill, which made her unintentionally kill the entire clan.
But Yami is finally at a level where he can handle the effects of the pill. As he consumed it, an immense aura engulfed the area, and Yami assumed a new form. Yami’s yoryoku increased explosively, and his healing was boosted. Just as theLucius clonetries to finish Ichika, Yami defeats it.
Yami’s new form is swelling with demonic powers, and he also seems to have acquired two black horns and a few strands of white hair. He is also seen clad in a black beaded necklace as Dark Magic swirls around his body.

Chapter 374 might have given Yami a new power-up, but it seems like a last-minute tactic to save the character. It is almost too similar to the pattern thatAkira Toriyamaintroduced inDragon Ball. InDragon Ball,every new villain brings out a new transformation in Goku which enables him to defeat the antagonist. However, if left unchecked,the power system snowballsto create an overpowered protagonist/character, which in turn requires even stronger villains in each arc.
The Demon Soul Pills are also extremely similar toDragon Ball‘s Senzu Beans. Of course, there is a major difference between them. Senzu Beans are mythical beans that contain immense rejuvenation properties and can heal any character to their natural peak. InDragon Ball, the bean is often used when a character is near defeat. The Demon Soul Pill, on the other hand, brings out latent magic powers and bloodthirstiness on top of healing its eater.
Nonetheless, the tropes used in chapter 374 ofBlack Cloverare too similar toDragon Ballto be ignored.Yuki Tabatahas created abalanced power system inBlack Cloverwhich can be instantly ruined by reckless transformations and power-ups. So, let’s hope that the original powers of the characters can be used to their full extent in the upcoming chapters rather than resorting to fancy new forms.
