Bill Hader, a veteran in the movie industry, had heaps to say when he decided to end his show,Barry, after four seasons. And after what recently happened toKaos, everything seems to make sense about how show business works and how sometimes good things don’t last.

Generally, it’s tough to stay afloat in the industry. Competition heightens almost every day, with new content being released for fans to indulge in. Sometimes, even the best producers, directors, and actors have to give up on their projects despite their wishes to continue with them.

Netflix cancels Jeff Goldblum’s Kaos after a single season

Despite the good verbal reviews online, numbers in viewership matter a lot in show business. The news aboutKaosending after one season was first revealed by Aurora Perrineau, who acts as Eurydice on the show.

Perrineau posted a lengthy message on Instagram that has since been removed. However, Deadline confirmed that Jeff Goldblum’s dark comedy will not be returning to Netflix with more seasons, unlike Charlie Covell, the creator of the show had intended.

According toForbes, Covell’s project did extremely well during its first two weeks of release.Kaospeaked at No.3 on Netflix on the English-language TV chart, but the rave numbers started to decline during week three. This inconsistency gave Netflix the courage to end the Greek mythology-based show.

Covell had also expressed his intention to giveKaosa couple more seasons before ending it. Unfortunately, the show had to conclude on an upsetting cliffhanger. Covell toldCosmopolitan,

There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team. It was a bit of a dream come true.

Kaos’ cancellation is a huge reminder of a scene from Bill Hader’s Barry

A similar incident occurred over a year ago withBill Haderand the team that created an iconic dark comedy series calledBarry. The show concluded after four seasons as a very “clear ending presented itself” to the writers.

Ironically, a scene fromBarryfeaturing the iconic Sarah Goldberg carried the same issue that Goldblum and Covell had to face with Netflix recently. Goldberg’s Sally Reed, a struggling actress, was forced to cancel her project due to the terrible numbers it raked in.

Bill Hader in Barry season 4

This scene fromBarrywas almost like a warning given to creators in the industry. Bill Hader and Alec Berg faced a few challenges while initially filming the project as the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

After realizing they couldn’t move ahead with filming the show’s first installment, Hader and Berg ended up writing more on the storyline, giving it a couple of seasons worth of content to work on. However, Hader claimed that the show’s ending simply presented itself while they started working on Seasons 3 and 4. It didn’t make sense to force more out of it (viaVariety).

Hader apparently didn’t address the obvious ending until HBO started filming Season 4 ofBarry. Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO, claimed that Hader’s decision only made sense and that she had to go with his gut instinct, even though it felt like a hard pill to swallow.
