Bob Odenkirk’s health crisis that could have endedBetter Call Saul
As per reports fromRolling Stone, Bob Odenkirk had a massive heart attack on August 17, 2025, when he was on break from filming the eighth episode for the final season in Albuquerque. The actor was onan exercise bike when he collapsed, and the long shooting hours must have exhausted him as well. Peter Gould shared the conversation he had with Vince Gilligan with the outlet and said:
Vince called me because he had been directing when it happened, and said, ‘Melissa [Bernstein] and I are in a car, we’re following an ambulance. Bob collapsed on the set, and it really doesn’t look good

His co-stars immediately called for help, and Odenkirk was given CPR (viaUnilad). His pulse returned in three attempts and he was rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital. The cast and crew were shocked, with prime concern being his health, and the future of the show being secondary.

The production was halted for a few days, andBob Odenkirkrequested scripts to study while he was in the hospital. But his wife interjected, as the actor needed to rest, and eventually, his condition became stable.

But look, if he hadn’t been himself… [long pause] It didn’t really bear thinking about, but I will say, I think we would’ve just dropped the show. I think Sony would’ve had to take a terrible financial loss because it would be an utterly incomplete story.

And they were shooting the scene that comes immediately after Lalo has shot Howard. There’s no rewriting to get around that. That’s about all I can say. We were ready to dump the whole thing. I mean, I wasn’t thinking about that. It’s too complicated.
Odenkirk’s speedy recovery and his comeback were met with profound emotion from everyone involved in the show. They made changes to their schedule and kept the lead actor’s health their topmost priority, and eventually finished the show without Sony taking any financial hits.
