Effortlessly enough, his years of hard work of slamming people down before going on to become a part of a major franchise like the MCU had him becoming a millionaire within little to no time. But before his fame launched him to extraordinary heights of success, there was also a time when Bautista didn’t even have enough food on his plate and spent his nights in a basement.

Dave Bautista Didn’t Have the Best Early Years of His Life

Looking at him now, many wouldn’t believe that the years may have even been hard onDave Bautista, like, ever. Perhaps it’s his wealth or his ever-so-affable personality that does this magic, but even now, fans find it surprisingly hard to believe that someone like theArmy of the Deadstar was ever broke. Because, as it turns out, it’s all true.

During an interview withChris Van Vliet, the professional wrestler turned actor came clean about the same as he confessed how he didn’t have the best early years of his life growing up, as opposed to what many people assume about him. Claiming he finds it“weird because I don’t know how people thought that I was brought up,”Bautista shared his life story:

When I was a kid, we were, you know — A lot of times we didn’t have food. Me, my mom, and my sister slept in a basement of a house in D.C. and we all shared one bed. I mean, I didn’t grow up with money, I grew up with less than no money. I mean, I had a pretty rough childhood.

Although surprising it may seem after looking at the heartthrob’s $16 million current net worth (viaCelebrity Net Worth),The Killer’s Gamestar was actually pretty broke – not only in his childhood but well into his adulthood as well. If anything, it was this very brokenness that eventually had Bautista turning to the wrestling world to“make a change.”

Dave Bautista Jumped Into Wrestling Because He Was Broke

By the time he turned 30, Bautista had already realized he had to do something to make his living standards better. However, since he was a high school dropout with no proper educational degrees up his sleeve, there weren’t many fields he could make a splash in. Thus, he eventually settled on the one thing that could help himsolely based on his strength: Wrestling.

As he continued to share during the same interview:

I was broke until I was well into my 30s. This is what led me into wrestling, I was broke and said, ‘I got to make a change!’ I didn’t have many choices because I had no education, I was a high school dropout. And I thought I’ll give wrestling a shot.

Giving wrestling a shot didn’t turn out all too bad for him as not only did Bautista end up making a name, but he also managed to earn a salary in millions before going on to make his splash in Hollywood’s entertainment industry. Buteven that didn’t last longuntil he landed his all-time best role as Drax, as Bautista confessed,“Before I got Drax, I was broke again.”
