Master Halsin is one of the key characters in the first act ofBaldur’s Gate 3, and probably one of the best healers in the game with great attacking capabilities. While Halsin cannot become yourpermanent companion, he will be a playable character in certain battles as long as both of you are following a shared purpose.

Unfortunately, Halsin isimprisoned inside quite a dangerous Goblin camp. While entering this camp without a fight requires a significant amount ofPersuasionand other fight-free skills to talk your way through the camp, Halsin can help you significantly todefeat three Goblin leadersinside the camp if you decide to help him and his grove.

Where To Find Halsin

You will find Halsin inside a Goblin Camp in thenorthwest of Blighted Villagefast travel station. This requires you to get out ofSilvanus Grove’s main gate or simply start from the Silvanus Grove fast travel station andfollow the path to the west. The first bridge that you get over will take you to the Blighted Village, which is raided by Goblins. As soon as you step into this village, you will trigger a conversation with a hostile Goblin, but you’re able to use the ability of the tadpole inside your head to convince him you are not looking for trouble. You may also succeed to do the same using other skills such as Deception or Intimidation based on your character build.

Once you are inside Blighted Village, you canactivate the fast travel station. Continue the path toward the west until you reach a new wooden bridge. On the other side of the bridge, there is a Goblin outpost, and all guards there are hostile to you, which means as soon as they see you, the combat mode will be triggered.

If you are eager to slaughter all the Goblins inside this outpost, we have a suggestion for you to place all your companions at. In the same route that leads you to the ledge to flee from a potential battle, there is also acragged rock that leads you up. Keep in mind that there is a guard on top of this cliff, which means you need to switch toStealth mode. Guide all your characters to the same spot, and then climb up the ladder and kill the guard. This will trigger the combat phase, and you will soon realize that not only will this position give you the high ground over a number of enemies on the battlefield, but it will also keep you safe from two giant Goblin dogs for the entirety of the battle — while they are vulnerable to your shots.

On the other hand, Sneaking around this outpost is quite easy as there is a narrow ledge on the right that will allow you to completely neglect all Goblins inside the outpost. So, if you want to avoid the fight, follow the path drawn in the image below.

Once you survive the outpost, there are two different ways to enter the building. You can either head to the main gate and talk your way through by convincing the guard, or you can choose the harder way to get around the castle and go through the upper entrance.

Halsin 6-1

Since you may use your Ilithid power to convince the guards, the main gate will be quite a safe choice. So, once you jump to the wider cliff from the ledge, move toward the west until you reach another bridge on your right. Following this broken bridge leads you inside the Goblin Camp. On your way to the gate, you will also spot Volo, who is a character you can set free once he is transitioned inside the Goblin Camp. Volo can be added to your own camp if you manage to rescue him. For now, leave Volo and continue the road straight.

Enter the door behind the giant Goblin. Now, there is one more gate ahead, but the Goblin guard will interrupt you. Passing through this gate without a fight requires a good die roll, using skills like Persuasion or Intimidation. Create a manual save before triggering the conversion at this point so that you can return and roll a die again if you fail to persuade the gatekeeper. That being said, using Ilithid power always works here.

Baldur’s Gate 3

If you succeed, you’re able to head inside the camp. As soon as you are in the middle of the main hall with a giant statue, turn right and head upstairs. Now, turn left and move to the far end of the corridor until you reach a wooden bridge. Follow the path on the bridge, and you will reach a new room with a few Goblins. Go open the door at the far end of the room, which is anOrnate Door. This will lead you to the prison where the bear is being kept.

Freeing Halsin From Prison

Once you are in the prison area, you will realize that some Goblin kids are throwing rocks at the bear. You need totalk with them and side with the bear. One way or another, at the end of this conversation, the bear will rage and move out of the cage.

If you side with Goblinsduring the conversation, the bear will become hostile in the combat phase, andyou will have to kill Halsin. So, you need to defend the bear and trigger the fight against Goblins during the conversation, and the bear will side with you when the combat begins. While this combat might seem difficult, Halsin is quite powerful both in normal and bear forms.

After completing this encounter, you can speak with Halsin, and if you agree to help him defeat Goblin leaders, Halsin will become a playable companion as long as you kill all three Goblin bosses inside the camp.

Now, return to the place where you chose to go through the main gate. If you had decided to go through the upper entrance, you would have needed to head to the wooden platform on the edge of the bridge, jump to the other side, and climb up the ladder (similar to the images below). Once you are on the top, you either need to make a long jump on top of the castle wall, or use the ladder on the side to climb up. Here, there will be one more cragged rock to climb up from.Head to the balcony of the castleand get past the guards to reach a vulnerable wall.

In order to break this wall, you need an attack that is capable of dealing 10 damage points. So, any hit that deals less damage won’t be effective. Keep in mind that if you hit the wall more than a few times, a Goblin will approach you. At this moment, you need to convince him to get back to his bed, so that you can continue destroying the wall and get inside.

Once the wall is broken, get inside, and you will find yourself on top of the building’s main hall. Use the ladder to go down, and the rest of the directions are similar to the one talked about earlier when entering the building from the main gate.
