In an interview with our friends over atTheGamer, Larian Studios revealed that it has no plans to add Matthew Mercer’s popular Gunslinger subclass toBaldur’s Gate 3.
Though the Gunslinger isn’t present in standard fifth-edition Dungeons and Dragons rulesets, Mercer’s invention has become increasingly popular with players of the tabletop game since he invented it for Taliesin Jaffe’s character Percy during Campaign 1 ofCritical Role.
Larian put it bluntly, “For now, we have no plans to add a Gunslinger class or firearms.” It’s not too surprising that Larian doesn’t want to dabble with firearms in Baldur’s Gate 3, they are somewhat untraditional in vanilla Dungeons and Dragons. But, that “for now” means we should never say never, right?
The subclass itself ispublicly availableto view and use for your own campaigns. The innate power of having a firearm is counterbalanced by reloading, potential misfires, the weapon breaking and so on. There are also some cool features, like the option of picking a new “trick shot” to learn at different levels.

Mercer himself will feature in Baldur’s Gate 3, playing the voice of beloved character and potential companion Minsc. With the growing popularity of Dungeons & Dragons, helped by Mercer’s own contributions through Critical Role, the voice actor was a natural choice to include in a game set in Faerûn.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will include all the standard Dungeons and Dragons classes and subclasses. Wild Magic Sorcerer, Eldritch Knight Fighter, all that good stuff. So despite Gunslinger not being featured, it’s safe to say that players will have plenty to mess around with.
With the highly-anticipated game almost upon us, we’ve been devising a bit of a wishlist here at DualShockers over the last couple of weeks. We’d like to seecustomisable character portraits, for one, or what aboutplayable origin stories? The latter really is just a wish.
Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on August 3 on PC, while the PlayStation 5 version is expected to release on 6 September. The Xbox Series X/S version doesn’t have a release date currently.
