What Are Titan-Shifters
Titan-Shifters are people who canwillingly turn themselves into powerful titans when physically hurt and having a goal in mind.Whileany Eldian can be turned into a pure titanby having Titan-Shifter spinal fluid either injected into their spinal cords or consumed through their mouth,Titan-Shifters turn into one of the Nine Titans.The Nine Titans are theFounding Titan, Attack Titan, Colossal Titan, Armored Titan, Beast Titan, Warhammer Titan, Cart Titan, Female Titan, and Beast Titan.
The powers of the Nine Titans and being a Titan-Shifter arepassed by being eaten by a Pure Titan.When a Pure Titan eats a Titan-Shifter, that Pure Titan reverts back to a human andnow has the power to become whichever of the Nine Titans they consumed the shifter for.There is only everone Titan-Shifter for each of the Nine Titans.
Titan-Shifter Powers & Abilities
While a human,a Titan-Shifter looks like any other person,with Eren going multiple years as a Titan-Shifter without even realizing it. While a human,Titan-Shifters still have regenerative abilities,with titan-style steam ejecting from wounds as they heal quickly. Titan-Shifters are able toregenerate entire body parts and can live through potentially fatal woundsas long as their nervous system stays intact.

Titan-Shifters can transform into their Titan as long as theyhave a physical wound and a purpose in mind. As Shifters become more experienced, theycan have a wound and choose when they transform,allowing them to prepare for a situation where they need to transform at a moment’s notice. Titan-Shifters also have something known as theCurse Of Ymir, which has them die exactly 13 years after receiving the powersof a Titan-Shifter.
Where Does Titan-Shifting Come From
Titan-Shifters' abilities and Titans themselvesall stem from Ymir,a girl who got the powers of the Titans and brought them into the rest of the world. Ymir came into contact with some creature of unknown origins2,000 years before the events of Attack on Titan,making her thefirst Titan-Shifter with the power of the Founding Titan.Ymir’s descendants began to spread throughout the Eldian Empire, eventuallyhaving her blood be in every person from the kingdom,and the power of the Titans was passed through that blood. Because of this,Eldians have the potential to turn into the Pure Titans, along with the ability to consume Titan-Shifters to pass on theNine Titansthrough the generations.
Passing On The Nine Titans
To pass on the powers of one of the Nine Titans and the ability to be a Titan-Shifter, aPure Titan must consume a Titan-Shifter.In Marley, Warrior candidates aretrained to eventually become Titan-Shifters and consume other shifters that are olderand getting close to the 13th year of them being one of the Nine Titans. Should a Titan-Shifter die from the curse or not die to being consumed, thepower of being a Titan-Shifter for that Titan will be passed to a random Eldianthat is born after the death of that Titan-Shifter.
While there are no records of this happening before Eren and his father,Titan-Shifters can consume other Titan-Shifters while in Titan form to add the abilities of that Titan to their own.This is seen through Eren having the powers of both the Founding Titan and Attack Titan, along with, later on, the Warhammer Titan. Should another Titan-Shifter consumeEren, they will obtain all of the powers for each of those Titans but willstill be bound to the Curse of Ymir 13 years from when they first became a Titan-Shifter.
