Across all ofAttack on Titan, there’s always been an entity watching from afar: The Founder Ymir. A slave girl who became the first titan and mother of all Eldians is now trapped in Paths, the dimension that connects all Eldians together, forever building titans for King Fritz and her children.
Attack On Titan: How Are Ackermans Special?
There’s something special about the Ackerman!
With the series finale, the reveal of Ymir’s involvement in the grand plan and ultimate conclusion of the conflict has been debated among fans. Here’s what Ymir did separate from Eren for the end of the Eldian conflict.
Attack On Titan
Ymir And King Fritz
Ymir was once a slaved child; King Fritz had ravaged her village, killed her parents, and enslaved her and her people. One night, Ymir freed a group of pigs from the farm, and for that, she was punished with death. The King’s men hunted her down, and she stumbled into a massive tree. After being united with a mysterious creature, she became the first Titan.
Attack On Titan: All Nine Titans In The Series, Ranked
Here are the nine Titans of Attack on Titan ranked by their strength.
After Ymir’s death, she remained in Paths, forever creating Titans in eternal suffering. For two thousand years, she continued to serve King Fritz, but why? Ymir lived her entire life as a slave, in absolute misery, and King Fritz was the only one who gave her what she mistook as love. Ymir did not understand what actual love is, what true human affection is, so, in her tormented self, she loved King Fritz. Stockholm Syndrome is a real-life condition that has been observed throughout human history, and Ymir was one of the most horrific cases of it in fiction.

Ymir’s Plan For Mikasa
Her twisted love for King Fritz enslaved her; she lived an endless nightmare, and for two thousand years, she searched for someone to set her free. After so long, she found someone among her children, someone who also loved someone else so much they would do anything for them, and with the future sight of Paths, she saw how that person had the courage to kill her loved one for the sake of the world and set herself free from the shackles of love. That person was Mikasa Ackermann.
Attack On Titan Finale: Eren And Mikasa’s Cabin Vision Explained
We saw Eren and Mikasa spending some together in AoT’s Final episode, which clearly wasn’t a real thing. So, what exactly was it?
Eren himself did not know why Ymir chose Mikasa, as the results Mikasa would bring were beyond his death, so he had no future memories of it. But Mikasa’s impossible choice brought upon two results: she would set Ymir free from her nightmarish love, and with Eren’s death, the titan power and curse would disappear from the world.

During the Battle of Heaven and Earth, Ymir deliberately did not threaten Mikasa’s life, as she was the key player in the ultimate plan. Mikasa had to survive, which wasn’t so hard considering her monumental strength. And Mikasa had to be pushed to her limit, to a point where she inevitably had to willingly choose to kill Eren herself. Ymir went along with Eren’s plan, but she herself had her own agenda, as Mikasa, unbeknownst to Eren, would bring an end to Ymir and all her children’s suffering.
