The latest entry in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise,Assassin’s Creed Shadowsjust got its first extended gameplay footage trailer at Ubisoft Forward. The clip highlighted some new features and the game’s parkour system among other things. It has already set the internet ablaze, but not for the reasons Ubisoft might have hoped.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows features two protagonists

While some aspects of the new system received praise like faster pace and flashier moves, some animation choices have sparked a heated debate among the fans, including the reuse fromAssassin’s Creed Origins. While this might be a disappointing step back, we are happy with it.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Channels Inner Bayek

Assassin’s Creed Originsrelease in 2017 marked a huge shift for the franchise. It was the first true RPG-like and while it was praised for the expansive world and RPG elements, the parkour system was nothing like the earlier titles. It lacked over-the-top animation details that defined the series.

Fast forward toAssassin’s Creed Shadows, the parkour system is once again at the center of the game. The recent gameplay trailer showed areturn to a faster pace and more acrobatics, unlikeAssassin’s Creed Origins. However, one element within this new, rich system has ignited a debate.

AC Shadows parkour looks clean, much faster than Mirage and everything since Syndicate, love the new flips as well, I am disappointed it’s the same jumping animation from Bayek though, hope this is sorted out by launch!pic.twitter.com/eDpxBC50B2

It looks like Ubisoft took a shortcut with the jumping animation. The jump used in theAssassin’s Creed Shadowstrailer appears to be identical to the one used by Bayek inAssassin’s Creed Origins. This is a great nostalgic nod to the past era ofAssassin’s Creed. While the parkour system looks promising, there is no need to make it over-the-top and inconvincible like in some past titles.

Assassin’s Creed Fans Are Not Buying It

The reuse of animations fromAssassin’s Creed Originsin the new installment has sparked a firestorm of comments from fans.

While they mainly hope this is fixed and changed by launch, one fan tweet says that the hope isn’t high on this one since the game is too far into production. Remember,Assassin’s Creed Shadowsreleases on June 13, 2025.

So far into production, I don’t think they will swap out the jumping animation.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows returns to its stealthy beginnings

Another fan of the franchise has said that he isn’t thrilled with the parkour system, especially with the frontflip.

Excuse me, but is that silly frontflip at 10 seconds supposed to look good?

Not everything is bad as one player assured fans that the game won’t look nothing like shown in the trailer as it is a Ubisoft game. While this is comes a bit sarcastic, there is truth to it. Ubisoft changed Basim’s movement before the release ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage.

People also want depth in the parkour system as one fan said they want it as an actual mechanic in the game rather than just animations.

Cool animations aside, I want actual mechanics to parkour not just animations with a directional input

Despite all said,Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis still a work in progress and the official release is a few months away. Developers might listen to fans address their concerns.

Until then, what are your thoughts on this shortcut by Ubisoft? Let us know in the comments!
