Star Wars Outlawsis set to be released by the end of August, and the gaming community is excited to see this new original project take place during the height of the Galactic Civil War. The developers have specific goals for this project: to feel authentic and honor the original trilogy.

Ubisoftis the latest group of creatives to throw hats in the ring and deliver something original but also familiar to the beloved franchise. Navid Khavari is the narrative lead of this new project and wantedStar Wars Outlawsto feel like the original trilogyand pay homage to what came before while bringing in something fresh.
Julian Gerighty is the creative director and adores the original films. Gerighty revealed in a recentinterviewthat the team developed a new feature that would give the game the same visual feel and atmosphere as of 1970.

We developed a lens for use inside of [game engine] snowdrop, a camera lens, which replicates the cinema lenses of the 1970s,
Gerighty and Khavari wanted to make this game feel like it was from a certain period.

So if you look, there is slight distortion. There is a Panavision lens vignetting chromatic aberration. There are lens flairs that are present. All of these things are there to remind you of the lenses of the original trilogy through new technology. We even collaborated with Lucasfilm to get the camera values for Rogue One, so we were as close as possible to the original trilogy, but through the lens of modern technology.
The developers also looked at the live-action films for inspiration andSolo: A Star Wars Storywas theperfect film that inspiredthe focus on the criminal underworld in the game. This game is an opportunity for unexplored story beats.
