One Piece peaked through this epic transformation scene
Apart from its criticism of impact frames,One Pieceaces the transformation scenes brilliantly. This holds especially true with the fifth-gear power-up. From the caricatured movements to the nonchalant laughter, Vincent Chansardleft no stone unturned. This holds especially with the portrayal of liberation and freedom in the scene. However, there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Chansard has worked withJujutsu KaisenandMob Psychoas their key animator. He worked on pivotal scenes in Eiichiro Oda’s series including Garp’s Galaxy Impact and Zoro’s fight with King. Gear 5 transformation took the animator’s prowess to another level. The drums of liberation mark the beginning of an era offreedom from the years of slaveryfor the people of Wano.

All in all, Eiichiro Oda’s series reflects culture and heritage in more ways than one. This holds relevance with the Drums of Liberation. The Gear-5 transformation is symbolic in several aspects. This is clear in the fluid and unrestricted movements coupled with Luffy’s nonchalance.
This reflects a break away from the traditional and oppressive systems. To say the least, this scene marked Toei’s brilliance as an animation studio. Moreover, Vincent Chansard deserves his due credit for his prowess as an animator.
