Vertigo Gamesand InnerspaceVR have announced today the follow-up to the critically acclaimed VR puzzle adventure,A Fisherman’s Talewith Another Fisherman’s Tale, which will release later this year onPSVR 2,Meta Quest 2, and PCVR headsets.
Another Fisherman’s Tale is billed as a “next-gen” VR adventure, and this is evident by the fact the originalPSVRheadset is being left out for the sequel, as is the originalMeta Questheadset. Instead, this new adventure has been built from the ground up with the capabilities of current virtual reality headsets in mind.
RELATED:Switchback VR’s Eye Tracking Makes Blinking A NightmareThe sequel carries on Bob the Fisherman’s story while also bringing brand-new gameplay concepts to the virtual landscape. In Another Fisherman’s Tale, the player character’s body is always a part of the puzzle and the solution. Each part of the player’s body can be detached, replaced, and controlled to help solve the game’s puzzles and make progress.
For example, if you can’t see what’s over yonder, simply take your head off and lob it where you want to have a look. Likewise, you can take a hand off your arm and throw it at a distant object, then control it remotely to retrieve a required item. Or, if you’re stuck and can’t reach a higher platform, you can swap out a regular hand for a zip hook, take aim, and ping over to your desired destination.
The overlying themes around Another Fisherman’s Tale are self-discovery, the meaning of being, and what life means when it has to be taken apart and rebuilt. Are we the same person after so many rebuilds, or do we become a whole other person? It’s safe to say, then, that Another Fisherman’s Tale is going…deep.
As part of the game’s announcement, Vertigo Games has released the game’s first trailer, which gives players a look at the game in action and some of the mechanics in play, though it’s not stated in the trailer which version is being displayed.
At the time of the announcement, Another Fisherman’s Tale does not have a release date. However, Vertigo Games has stated that the game is due to release “early” this year, so it’s likely to be within the not-so-distant future.
In the meantime, if you’ve not yet experienced the award-winning original game, A Fisherman’s Tale, it’s out there now on PSVR, Meta Quest, and PC headsets.
