Tony Gilroy createdAndor, which emerged as one of the bestStar Warsprojects in recent years. It serves as a prequel to 2016’sRogue One: A Star Wars Storyand details the backstory of Cassian Andor, who plays an important role in the Rebellion. However, Gilroy admitted that creating the series wasn’t easy and one episode posed a very unique challenge.
Gilroy revealed that the show’s sixth episode was challenging to edit for various reasons. As a result, it presented the toughest obstacle to the creative team while emerging as one of the best hours of television the series had to offer. Tony Gilroyfirst came into the galaxy far, far away to help with the reshoots ofRogue One, arguably the bestStar Warsmovie of the Disney era. He later created the spin-off/prequel seriesAndor,focusing on the titular character played by Diego Luna.
The show’s sixth episode presented a major turning point for the hero, proving to be a challenge to craft. During an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy admitted that the episode was difficult to edit. The showrunner revealed:
Six was very hard to put together, so I would say yeah. I’m trying to think of where Johnny and I had the most arguments. (Laughs.) Yeah, six was tough.
From Gilroy’s words, it is safe to say that he and editor John Gilroy had the most disagreements on the episode.

The episode combines several perspectives to signal a major progress in Andor’s transformation into the rebel spy we know. Given the episode’s context in the overall story, it is easy to understand why it was difficult to edit. However, the episode is among the show’s best entries, currently sitting at a 95% approval score onRotten Tomatoesand a 9.1/10IMDBrating.

In the same interview, Gilroy was also asked about the show’s success, especially the critical acclaim, and whether he was tempted to revert to his original five-season plan forAndor. However, Gilroy admitted that the process of making season 1 only cemented his belief that the series should have only two seasons.
I would think that you’d have some pity and look at what we’re doing and go, “You physically couldn’t do it.” I mean, everyone can see how much we had to pour into this, and we’re not even at the end yet.
Gilroy made the above comment, confirming that he had no intention of expanding the series beyond the two-season arc he had settled on because of the sweeping scope of producing a series set in the galaxy far, far away.

The series was confirmed to be ending with a second and final season, with Gilroy resuming his head writing duties. The showrunner had also promised that the series would lead directly into the events ofRogue One,concluding Andor’s story.
