Alexandra Daddario might have been known for her role in thePercy Jacksonfranchise. However, after breaking into the film industry, the actress broke away from her PG roles to tackle a character in the American drama series,True Detective. With the show focusing on detectives being forced to face dark secrets about themselves, the 38-year-old was tossed into the ring as a court reporter having an affair with a married detective, who was played by Woody Harrelson.
Daddario’s role was unlike any other she had ever portrayed. But her dip into explicit material in the world of television stunned fans. Although it was a lot to put on a young rising star, the actress admitted that one thing that helped her through the adult scenes was Harrelson.

In the first season of the 2014 series,True Detective,Alexandra Daddariofound herself navigating a challenging role. As the actress played Lisa Tragnetti, she had to come to terms with getting completely naked for one scene.
It required both emotional depth and vulnerability, which the 38-year-old managed to bring to the screen. However, in an interview withMTV News, she revealed that working with Woody Harrelson had made the scene easier for her.
He made the whole situation very comfortable. It wasn’t anything awkward in that sense. I tried not to think about it too much before shooting the more intimate scenes and just sort of did it. [Harrelson] has been there, done that. He’s Woody Harrelson.
Daddario also added, “If there’s anybody that I was going to be comfortable with, it’s somebody like him.”After all, by the time that the actress took on the role, the 63-year-old actor had already been a hugely well-known figure in the film industry. Although both the actors in the scene knew it was just a show, the rest of the world seemed to think otherwise.

Daddario admitted that she felt comfortable with stripping down to her birthday suit in front of Harrelson. However, fans of the star did not see it that way. In fact, the scene wound up being considered as exploitative.

After all, they had just recently watched the blue-eyed star take on the role of Annabeth inthe controversial Percy Jackson franchiseand still saw her as a child.
However, in real life, the actress was a 28-year-old who was trying to tackle bigger and more mature roles. In a conversation withInterview Magazine, she admitted that the scene was never meant to be exploitative.
You see Woody Harrelson’s character as a family guy and then, all of a sudden, you see him in this very s*xual situation with this naked girl. It just completely changes the way you see him.
The actress defended the scene saying that it was a necessary addition for her and Woody Harrelson’s character arcs. Daddario even explained,“It was the first time I was nude for anything, so I was definitely unnerved by that, but I think any implied misogyny is a result of defining the characters.”

While the scene might have been uncomfortable for some to watch, it opened a lot of doors for Daddario. After all, her role brought a lot of attention to her skills and eventually paved the way for her to star in the 2017 film,Baywatch.
