Alan Wake 2
Preparing For The Fight
Before entering the Overlap, make sure tostock up on Ammoby looting every container nearby. The fight ahead can be long, and it is possible to run out of bullets mid-fight if you’re not prepared.
If you have to fend off regular enemies, try to use theCrossbow—which you should’ve unlocked by now—instead of the guns. Since the Crossbow is slow to rearm, it’s not very useful during the boss fight. The Shotgun and Pistol ammo are crucial for defeating the Deputies.

Unlike the Nightingale fight, the number of lootable containers in this boss fight is limited. There is less room for mistakes. Save your bullets.
Phase 1: The Cabin
When you first enter the Overlap through the Parade Float, you’ll end up near a Cabin by the lakeside surrounded by trees. Enter the Cabin to find aManuscript pageon the table. There is nothing else of note here.
Behind the Cabin, you’ll see wooden beams on the ground lining the pathway deeper into the woods.Follow the wooden beamsuntil you come across a well with a ladder leading down. Go down and keep following the path, and you’ll end up back at the Cabin. The path from the Cabin to the well is a loop you’ll have to go through three times until you come across the well for the final time, and you see a red flare light coming from inside. This is the start of the real fight.

When you begin to see blood near the Cabin, a Shoebox will spawn near the entrance that goes deeper into the woods from the back of the Cabin. Use the Shoebox to reorganize your inventory and take back any ammo you may have stored there.

Phase 2: Mulligan & Thornton
As you approach the Well, Deputies Mulligan and Thornton will spawn in, one after the other. Both of their presence is highlighted with ared flare lightthat lights up their surroundings wherever they are.
Mulligan and Thornton can respawn endlesslyif you just kill them directly. The key in this fight are the nodes of darkness spread around the arena. Look for distortions in space that twist Saga’s vision when she looks at them. Shine your Flashlight at these spots to destroy them. There are six darkness nodes in total, and destroying them all will make Thornton and Mulligan mortal, allowing Saga to deal with them permanently.

Thornton carries a rifle and likes to stay near the edges of the arena, taking potshots at Saga whenever he gets the chance. He always fires two rifle shots together with a small pause before he has to take a longer pause to reload. There is a sound effect of Thornton cocking his gun before every rifle shot, but it is difficult to hear it over the dialogue and ambient noise.
Whenever Thornton fires his rifle, dodge, and then dodge again to duck the second shot. Thornton also cannot fire through obstacles, meaning you can take cover behind the large rocks in the area to catch your breath.Saga’s Pistol is your best bet on taking down Thornton from a distance, but Crossbow bolts can work, too.

Mulligan is the brawler of the two and carries a Shotgun. In melee range, he likes to use the butt of his gun to stun Saga and push her to the ground before swinging. At range, he can fire a single shot, dealing massive damage.
Take Mulligan out of the fight every chance you get, as he is much harder to ignore than Thornton, as he can close the gap and deal damage in one quick motion.Saga’s shotgun is the ideal weapon at dealing with him at close range, but all her weapons work just as well if he is not protected by the Darkness shroud.
If you’re having trouble finding the darkness nodes to make the deputies vulnerable, look just above the well they spawn from. There is a node on the hook hanging over the well.
