Originally released back in September 1999,Age of Empires 2is considered one of the best real-time strategy (RTS) video games of all time. While there is an Xbox version for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition released way back in 2019, it seems PlayStation gamers might be getting the tactical game as well.
Over on the Age of Empire 2subredditit, a user posted an image of a lobby where it clearly shows the PlayStation logo as the platform for some players. The only problem is, the game isn’t available on any PlayStation platform!

Age Of Empires 2 Headed To PlayStation Platforms
This has led people to believe that it is now currently being playtested, and further adding to that belief is arumorthat surfaced five months ago, which claims that Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will be released in early 2025 on PS5.
While there is a chance that the image could be fake, the two players mentioned there have active insight profiles (1,2), which further adds credibility to yet another Microsoft game hitting a PlayStation platform. At the very least, take comfort in the fact that the player base should get a significant uptick, which means more players to play with/against.

Age of Empires Mobile - Dev Deep Dive
Take a look at the dev deep dive of Age of Empires Mobile. One of your favorite strategy games is now available on mobile devices.
Originally developed by Ensemble Studios for release on PC, the Definitive Edition of the strategy game was released on PC and Xbox in 2019 by studios, Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, and Wicked Witch Software. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition includes all content from the previous editions and expansions, as well as four new civilizations, additional campaign missions and new 4K resolution visuals. Since release, the Definitive Edition has received multiple premum expansions, with the latest one titled “Victors and Vanquished” pushed out this March 2024.

Based on our Age of Empires 2: Definitive from way back, it’s one solid RTS game with our reviewer stating, “Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is the perfect example of taking an ancient game and giving it just enough love to make it feel almost new, something that many other remasters and re-releases so often miss the mark on.”
Obviously, treat this one with a grain of salt for now since it’s unofficial, but don’t be surprised to see Age of Empires 2 for PS5 announced before the year is over. I mean, this sort of announcement is the type of thing we’d see at The Game Awards, no? Perhaps Microsoft is planning to do it then.
