Microsoft has fired the first shot in the next console generation, announcing a partnership with AMD that will involve the next generation ofXboxconsoles, with the announcement closely following the reveal of a dedicatedASUS Xbox handheld.

It seems like only yesterday that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hit the market, with lockdown leading to the most tumultuous launch period that any console has ever faced. Five years have passed, and both systems are going strong, with the Nintendo Switch 2 recently entering the fray.

9 Xbox Game Pass Fodder Games That Are Surprisingly Good

They may not be the games you got a subscription for, but they’re pretty good nonetheless.

Microsoft is already planning its next line of systems, as a new video on the official Xbox YouTube channel has announced a multi-year partnership with AMD that will include the unnamed next Xbox system. This follows the reveal of theROG Xbox Ally Xby Asus, which is a licensed portable gaming system that also uses an AMD processor.

AMD Will Power The Next Xbox

AMD will be co-engineering silicon for multiple devices, including the new Xbox. The intention is for the next system to have top-tier graphics partially powered by AI, which will still be compatible with the existing library of games.

There was also a reference to the next console being “in your hands,” suggesting that the next Xbox could go the Steam Deck route and have a portable mode, which is also the rumoured route that thePlayStation 6is taking. This could also just be a reference to theROG Xbox Ally.

Xbox

The presentation was light on details, but it seems Microsoft is already gearing up for the next console generation. The Xbox Series X/Swas a distant thirdto the PS5 andNintendo Switch, but their systems have Microsoft money and clout behind them, so Xbox isn’t out of the running just yet.

Ultimately, it’s the games that sell a system, which is why the Nintendo Switch did so well, despite its lack of horsepower. If Microsoft can’t bring the games, then no amount of chips will interest customers outside of the die-hard fan base.
