Call of Duty‘s reputation was built off the back of its intense action and heart-pounding gameplay. Although the franchise is a hollow shell of its former self these days, the older games still hold up well to this day. These games offered compelling campaigns that are still revered by fans.

Compelling as they are, some of them had excruciatingly difficult missions that gave the averageCoDfan a FromSoftware-sized headache. We scraped together six such missions that will have even seasoned veterans sweating bullets on the highest ‘Specialist’ difficulty.

Relentless (Call of Duty: World at War)

For many players, this initial mission is the perfect example of how frustratingWorld at Warcan be. You could probably spend hours killing the countless respawning enemies. Additionally, excessive grenade usage may force you to flee to open spaces, where you may easily be targeted and killed by Arisakas and Type 100s.

Sparse checkpoints and challenging cave clearance can also be aggravating, especially with powerful LMGs and limited cover.

Blowtorch and Corkscrew (Call of Duty: World at War)

Yet anotherWaWinclusion, this mission featured a combination of challenges found in the game – frequent grenade attacks, numerous enemies, bad conditions, and limited protection.

It is consistently difficult, with one instance forcing players to switch from a Flamethrower to an SMG just to evade grenades – atactic never seen beforein anyCall of Dutygame. What’s even more frustrating is that this mission isn’t even the toughest one in the game.

The Silo (Call of Duty 2)

Clearing areas can be extremely challenging, as evident by some other missions on this list, and for this particular mission, that’s all you’ll be doing. Accessing the houses is already tough due to crowded homes and streets swarming with enemies.

Upon reaching them, you’ll likely face numerous deaths without any way to prevent it, as the houses are occupied by Germans prepared to attack you, with no flashbangs for assistance. After clearing the houses, defending the area becomes even more challenging as you’re positioned in an exposed silo, with mortar shells adding to the difficulty.

No Fighting In The War Room (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare)

Asamazing as the campaignwas, this level stops many players in their tracks as they attempt to reach the control room and disable the nukes. The mission is challenging due to an overwhelming amount of enemies, insufficient lighting, hidden foes, a maze-like layout, and a short 9-minute timeframe.

Little Known Fact Is Exactly Why the Call of Duty Franchise Is Doomed, Regardless of Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard Purchase

With barely any checkpoints and an inconceivable level of frustration, this mission is a prime example of why time limits shouldn’t be inCall of Dutygames.

One Shot, One Kill (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare)

In this mission, you have to eliminate the game’s antagonist, Imran Zakhaev. That isn’t tough, but what comes after is. Escaping to the extraction point is a challenging task, requiring you to defend it until the helicopter arrives.

Armed with asniper rifleand a USP. 45, you must navigate through enemy territory and somehow survive. Defending the LZ is the ultimate challenge, as you must fight off the entire Pripyat army to wait for the helicopter. Camping out is an option, but dying means starting over. The best advice is to keep moving quickly.

Heart of the Reich (Call of Duty: World at War)

Anyone who has completedWorld at Warknew that this mission would make the list. This mission is extremely challenging due to the infinitely respawning enemies, frequent grenade attacks, and meager amount of checkpoints.

The only way to succeed here is to aggressively take out the Flak 88s by ‘running n gunning’. Trying to pick off enemies from a distance won’t work, as they keep on coming. Luck is essential to win this mission. After destroying the 88s, you must clear out buildings with hidden enemies, adding to the difficulty.
